Global Studies
Participate in healthcare missions to Haiti. Compare the U.S. healthcare system with that of Australia, Spain, or Taiwan. Learn about community health care in rural India. Or spend a “mini-mester” at one of our partner institutions in Mexico, the Dominican Republic, or Chile.

Meeting the healthcare needs of an increasingly diverse patient population requires health professionals equipped with cultural knowledge and sensitivity. There is an ever-increasing need for healthcare graduates who can deliver culturally tailored care and come up with solutions to emerging public health risks on a global scale. That’s why we are committed to offering a variety of options for international study. UM SONHS’ students in all degree programs and at all levels have opportunities to experience healthcare in a wide range of environments and locations, from resource-challenged communities in remote world regions to modern, state-of-the-art facilities all over the globe.

Our undergraduate and graduate students in both our nursing and health studies programs  have opportunities to travel, study and even conduct research abroad through the UM SONHS’ International Exchange Programs – Nursing, International Exchange Programs – Health Studies, or the Minority Health Disparities International Research Training Program.
