India
The UM SONHS’ most recently launched international exchange agreement is with Manipal University, located in India’s Dehmi Kalan village near Jaipur. This global partnership presents a unique opportunity for students to expand their worldview of healthcare. Our students who travel to India get to observe the widespread integration of ancient healing traditions with conventional Western medicine. This exchange experience provides participating students with valuable knowledge on alternative therapies not readily available in the U.S.  During their trip to India, students will attend seminars on Ayurvedic medicine, one of the world’s oldest holistic learning approaches, and they will learn about treating patients using herbal interventions as well as lifestyle and dietary changes. They will also have the chance to visit India’s public health department, hospitals, and remote village clinics, an exposure to rural medicine not otherwise available in their curricula.
