"Engaging Students in Two Community Involvement Projects: The National Depression Screening Day and the Great American Smokeout"

The purpose of this project is to facilitate student involvement in two national initiatives at the University of Miami.

During the Great American Smokeout, nursing students conduct campus-wide events that target increased awareness of tobacco use and ways to advocate for cessation. Moreover, students will have a leadership role in screening depression and bipolar disease during the National Depression Screening Day. A reflective essay that highlights the impact of the experience is required from each student. This project will be conducted from Fall 2016 to 2021 and was funded by the University of Miami’s Office of Civic and Community Engagement.
