"Promoting Healthy Lifestyles in South Florida Communities: University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies (SONHS) Health Fair Program”, Jessica Williams, PhD, PI

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the short- and long-term effectiveness of health fairs on individual level outcomes.

One of the most frequently requested activities by SONHS community partners is to conduct health fairs for their clients. Health fairs area common type of health promotion activity seen in communities, particularly in south Florida. They generally involve educational and other interactive events which can serve to increase health literacy of community members and provide basic preventive services as well as health screening. It is important that health fairs are conducted in a systematic manner, based on the best available evidence for them to be effective in promoting health behaviors and increasing health literacy.
