"The Use of Simulation as an Educational Tool for Stroke Protocol Implementation in a University Hospital”, Johis Ortega, PhD, PI

This study utilizes simulation to improve compliance with the Stroke National Hospital Inpatient Quality Measures, the stroke standards of care.

Through simulation learning activities, nursing and nursing assistant staff on the neurology floors, ICU and Emergency Department of the University of Miami Hospital have the opportunity to refine their skills and enhance their critical thinking to improve patient outcomes related to stroke. The study looks at whether simulation is a more effective teaching method than the traditional bedside in-services for assuring compliance with the stroke standards of care. Data from the simulation teaching intervention is being compared to the available data for the time periods prior to the simulation intervention for compliance with the stroke standards of care.
