Sigma Theta Tau: Beta Tau Chapter

In 1922 six nurses founded Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) at the Indiana University Training School for Nurses.  The founders chose the names from the Greek words Storge, Tharsos and Time meaning “love,” “courage” and “honor”.  STTI became incorporated in 1985 as a nonprofit organization.  The vision of the Honor Society of Nursing is to create a global community of nurses who lead in using knowledge, scholarship, service and learning to improve the health of the world’s people.  Membership is by invitation based on scholarly achievement.  Baccalaureate and graduate nursing students who demonstrate excellence in scholarship and nurse leaders exhibiting exceptional achievements in nursing are invited to join. STTI has greater than 135,000 active members, members reside in more than 100 countries and there are 540 chapters at 700 institutions of higher education worldwide.
