Australia

Our international exchange program in Australia  offers UM SONHS students the opportunity to travel to the Commonwealth of Australia, where they can observe this country’s health system and the community-specific social, political, environmental, economic, and cultural determinants of health on the Australian continent.   In keeping with our educational programs’ strong emphasis on cultural competency and service to all ethnic communities, students who participate in this experience are offered the opportunity to work with Australia’s indigenous peoples, a disenfranchised population which experiences severe health disparities.  Given the challenge traditionally posed by Australia’s geographical isolation, the chance to travel to the world’s sixth-largest country and learn about its healthcare delivery system is a significant opportunity for our students.
