"Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding: WHO/UNICEF 20-hour Breastfeeding Training Course for Health Care Providers", Rosina Cianelli, PhD, PI

The purpose of this study is to develop and implement a hybrid (in person and online) breastfeeding training with undergraduate and graduate nursing students at the University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies.

The training is based on the WHO/UNICEF 20-hour breastfeeding curriculum. This training is designed to prepare nursing students with the knowledge and skills to support breastfeeding when they begin work. The online training component consists of five modules with a length of approximately 14 hours using technology-based instruction via Blackboard Learn. The face-to-face component includes group activities (Breastfeeding Objective Structured Clinical Examination) where the students have to perform skills related to breastfeeding and role-playing using telehealth. Six hundred (600) nursing students have completed the training. Enrollment of students, data collection, and analysis will continue. Manuscripts have been published in Clinical Nursing Studies and Investigación en Educación Médica.
