eHealth Familias Unidas Mental Health

1. Adapting eHealth Familias Unidas Mental Health for Hispanic College Students to Reduce Internalizing Mental Health Symptoms (PI: Bravo; P50MD019468)

This project adapts eHealth Familias Unidas Mental Health (eFUMH) for college students by using the ADAPT-ITT framework to tailor content for Hispanic young adult, first-generation college students. It focuses on addressing family functioning gaps and mental health risks during the transition to college through needs assessment and theater testing of intervention components.

 

Familias Unidas for Health and Wellness

1. Family-based eHealth Obesity Prevention Intervention for Hispanic Adolescents (PI: St. George, K01HL133521)

This project adapts the Familias Unidas for Health and Wellness by creating a fully digital, family-based intervention that uses web and mobile technology to promote physical activity, reduce sedentary behavior, and improve diet quality among Hispanic adolescents.

2. Efficacy Trial of Healthy Juntos: A Family-based Digital Lifestyle Intervention for Hispanic Adolescents and their Parents (R01CA289519; PI: St. George)

This project builds on Familias Unidas for Health and Wellness by delivering a family-based digital program to prevent BMI increases and improve lifestyle behaviors among Hispanic adolescents and their parents, expanding the original model to include cancer prevention and parent health outcomes.

 

Familias con Orgullo

1. Planning for Implementation of a Family-based Intervention for Prevention of HIV, Substance Use, and Mental Health Problems among Hispanic Youth at Risk: A Community-Engaged Approach (K01MH140646; PI: Lozano)

This project builds on Familias con Orgullo by developing an implementer-driven strategy package to accelerate the adoption and integration of Familias con Orgullo, a family-based intervention addressing HIV, substance use, and mental health disparities among Hispanic lesbian, gay, and bisexual youth.

 

Projects by Past Trainees:

1. Diffusing persuasive HIV testing messages: engaging Black sexual and gender minority youth social media influencers (K01MD015813; PI: Ocasio)

This project adapts Familias Unidas’ community-engaged and culturally tailored approach to HIV prevention among Black sexual minority youth by leveraging Instagram influencers and persuasive messaging strategies to normalize routine HIV testing.

2. Exploring longitudinal and momentary effects of family functioning on obesity risk behaviors in Hispanic adolescents and family units (K01HL166439; PI: Fernandez)

This project extends Familias Unidas for Health and Wellness by incorporating ecological momentary assessment to capture real-time family functioning and obesity risk behaviors, laying the groundwork for an adaptive intervention targeting Hispanic adolescents.
