Student Organizations

Joining a student organization is a great way to explore career interests, build practical skills, and prepare for a future in health and nursing.

SONHS Student Organizations

American Assembly of Men in Nursing (AAMN)

The purpose of AAMN is to provide a framework for nurses as a group, to meet, discuss and influence factors which affect men as nurses. All students are welcome to join. Objectives include:

  • Encouraging men of all ages to become nurses and join together with all nurses in strengthening and humanizing health care.
  • Supporting men who are nurses to grow professionally and demonstrate to each other and to society the increasing contributions being made by men within the nursing profession.
  • Advocating for continued research, education and dissemination of information about men’s health issues, men in nursing, and nursing knowledge at the local and national levels.
  • Supporting members’ full participation in the nursing profession.

 

Doctoral Nursing Students Organization (DNO)

DNO supports nursing students seeking a PhD or DNP by promoting collaboration, scholarly engagement, and professional growth. It creates opportunities for doctoral students to discuss scholarship, develop leadership abilities, and build connections with peers and faculty. It also strengthens communication within nursing programs and the broader academic community.

 

Health Studies Student Association (HSSA)

The HSSA brings together pre-health students at the University of Miami and creates opportunities to connect and support one another. Through events, discussions, and community service, it provides guidance on navigating health professions and career pathways. Multicultural Nursing Student Association (MNSA)

MNSA is a student organization focused on promoting cultural awareness and inclusion in nursing and healthcare. It helps all students develop the skills needed to care for people from different cultural and social groups and to address health disparities. Activities include cultural events, community outreach, and collaboration with other organizations.

 

Nurse Anesthesia Students Association (NASA)

Nursing Student Association (NSA)

The NSA is the University of Miami’s local chapter of the National Student Nurses Association (NSNA). It is a student-run professional organization for nursing students connecting them to the National Student Nurses Association (NSNA). It provides leadership opportunities, networking, professional development, community service, and advocacy experiences to help prepare students for careers in nursing. Pre-Physician Associate Club

The Pre-Physician Associate Club is a student-led organization with the primary focus of guiding those interested in becoming Physician Associates (PA). They organize events featuring guest speaker presentations, pre-PA mentors, college professors, and PA program admission counselors. Project Public Health

Project Public Health is the University of Miami's public health hub. Members have a chance to: get real-world exposure to the field of public health, meet community, benefit from skills-based experiences to strengthen resumes, contribute to science magazines on campus, and network with other departments at the university, such as the Miller School of Medicine’s Department of Public Health Sciences. Sigma Theta Tau International: Beta Tau Chapter

Sigma Theta Tau is an international honor society that recognizes nursing students and professionals who demonstrate excellence in academics, leadership, and practice. It is by invitation and offers opportunities for networking, research, and professional development to support the growth of nurse leaders.
