What does it mean to enroll in a research study?
A research study is when doctors and scientists are trying to find answers to a question. When you enroll in a research study, you will sign a consent form agreeing to participate.
What is expected of me throughout my involvement in ECHO?
If you enroll in ECHO, you will be expected to complete surveys and provide samples throughout your involvement in the study.
How long will the study last?
The study will last up to 7 years.
What if I am very busy and concerned about the time required for ECHO?
We understand you may have a busy schedule. Therefore, we are very flexible with surveys and sample collection. All surveys can be done online on your own time, and our team will make sure to schedule sample collection based on your schedule.
What will ECHO do with my samples?
ECHO will collect samples to hopefully learn more about your health. For example, we may link information about you and your baby’s samples and health information about air water quality where you live and work. All these samples are kept on secure databases, and the information will not be shared with anyone outside of ECHO or the University of Miami.
What is a placental sample?
A placental sample is when your OBGYN takes a very small sample of your placenta after you have delivered the placenta, and it is no longer in your body. This is non-invasive, and you will not feel anything since the placenta is already delivered.
